– Sanath Sugeeva

Sanath and his wife, Wasanthi, live in Kahawa with their twin babies, Avishka and Kavishka. He is an excellent artist with an imaginative eye.  His best work is done as large murals done in oil on bas relief structures he creates from cement. Sanath has done a number of walls, including his own home, in the local area. And word-of-mouth fame has earned him work as far away as Polonuwara, Kandy and Colombo.  Some of his work is shown here.

Elephant Pond

Recently, he has been commissioned by a family to construct a piece at the entrance to the temple compound. It is a small pond with a back wall in a forest motif with an actual waterfall designed into it. It was still a work in progress when I left in March.

Sanath has just received an employment offer from an architectural firm in Qatar. He’ll be leaving for the Middle East in April after the pond is finished.

His brother, Sunil, is also a painter.

Both brothers also earn income from commercial sign and poster painting.
